PHS German Club Students Attend Deutschfest

Eight PHS German students explored German language and culture at Deutschfest 2024, held at the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO).  Dr. Joseph Willis took his students to Deutschfest, sponsored by UCO, OSU, and OU, to provide them with opportunities to interact with university representatives while experiencing a cultural event. Over a dozen high schools from across Oklahoma, along with German teachers, professors, and Dr. Skinner from the Oklahoma State Department of Education, were in attendance.

Pryor High School students represented the district well, earning awards and honors.

  • Hudson Fields and Jerry Lane secured 1st place overall in music and 1st place in instrumental performance. Their rendition of Ramstein's "Sonne" on the acoustic guitar impressed the judges and earned them the privilege of performing at the event's closing ceremony.
  • Chris Gates demonstrated his depth of knowledge by achieving 1st place out of 100 students in the KAHOOT Quiz competition, highlighting his understanding of German language and culture.
  • Phoenix Rogers excelled in the Vocabulary Challenge, claiming 1st place and demonstrating his proficiency in the German language.
  • Drake Wells' artistic talents secured 2nd place in the two-dimensional art category, impressing judges with his creative skills.
  • Macy Minnix added to the honors by demonstrating her poetic ability, securing 3rd place in the poetry competition.

Congratulations to all the students for their outstanding performances at Deutschfest!
