Our 5th-grade Gifted and Talented (GATE) students traveled to Tahlequah on January 22 for an educational adventure--Cherokee Nation STEM Fest. This two-day event took place at the Chota Conference Center in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. At the event, students were able to dive into the dynamic world of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
The first day of the event was targeted toward elementary students, offering hands-on experiences to learn about STEM. Erin King and Kadi Conkwright, STEM/GT Facilitators, led their students through this immersive learning experience. NASA, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Department of Energy, The Sutton Center, and area trade schools and universities set up exhibits offering hands-on activities and real-world demonstrations, sparking student curiosity.
After visiting the exhibits, the students toured the Cherokee National History Museum, the Historical Prison, and the Courthouse. These visits offered valuable insights into the history and traditions of the Cherokee Nation, blending cultural education with STEM exploration.
